Newborn Session Three Months Late

About a year ago I got to do a photo session with my cousin and her 3 month old baby. It was a little late for a classic newborn session (which are typically during the first month of a babies life) but as I captured their sweet family, only a few months into welcoming their sweet girl, I realized 3-month-old sessions are just as special and in some ways better than a newborn session.

So if you’re someone who feels like they missed the newborn window, here are a few reasons to do a session when your baby is three months!

  1. At three months, your baby is smiling easily and starting to look more like their baby self.

  2. At three months, you are feeling more like yourself! Everyone’s recovery is different and every baby is different. But I know I feel wildly more competent at 3 months than I do within that first month with a newborn. The first six weeks of a new babies life feels like survival mode to me. Preparing for a photo session during that time is always overwhelming.

  3. At three months your baby is more predictable. Obviously all babies are different, but often your baby starts hitting an eat, wake, sleep rhythm by three or four months. It’s easier to know when to schedule a photo session that will work best for your baby!

If you need any additional reason to book a session after missing the newborn window, these photos speak for themselves!! (And were all captured with a 70 year old 35mm film camera!)
