Our Valentine’s Day Tradition
Since Jacob and I celebrate our anniversary on February 23rd, we celebrate Valentine’s Day as a family. It has become one of my very favorite holidays of the year.
Every year, we do the same simple things.
Decorate the House for February
At the beginning of February, we cut out paper hearts and tape them all over our front room. It’s nothing fancy — just printer paper painted pink, cut into hearts — but my girls love the craft each year.
February Playlist
Another thing I do to set the mood is frequently put on our “February” playlist on Spotify. It might be my favorite playlist I’ve ever made.
Our Valentine’s Dinner Tradition
The on Valentine’s Day, I always make the same meal: shrimp fettuccini with fresh sourdough bread. It has become the Valentine’s meal in our home.
We set the table with a fancy lace table cloth, candles, flowers, and pink napkins.
Instead of Valentine’s gifts, each person has a book waiting at their plate. I love planning which books I'm going to get each kid every year.
This year, I gifted the girls Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales and Oscar Wilde’s Stories for Children.
Jacob gifted me Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain (I never thought I’d learn to draw and I'm shocked by how much I've already improved-this book is amazing!!!)
Candlelight + Dance Party
When it’s time to eat we turn off the lights and eat by candlelight. The girls always think this is the most magical part.
Then after dinner, we end the night with a dance party in the living room. We love using this disco ball we got for Christmas a few years ago!
Capturing the Memory
To capture our family tradition and this fun holiday, I just snap a quick photo of our table scape before we sit down to eat. It is a fun little creative moment that I enjoy each year. This year I also snagged a photo of Margaret wearing theses cute heart glasses.(So cute?!?!)
